Manchester, like Sheffield on the other side of the Pennines, always produces a large turnout, with in excess of 100 attendees being noted during the course of the November 2007 meet! Regarded by most to be the UK's "second city" (though residents of Birmingham would, no doubt, disagree - Ed), there's plenty to do in Manchester, so whether you like pottering around Art Galleries and Museums, whiling away the hours in Bars or just wandering around the shops, there's something for everyone. (NB: The previous statement is no guarantee that there will actually be something for everyone, but it's fairly reasonable to assume there will be. - Ed) Next Meet: Friday 28th to Sunday 30th May 2010 The Plan!Saturday 29th May 2010: As normal we will be meeting at Manchester Piccadily Station at 11am near the departure boards but I please ask that those who know how to get to the village, then please can you take your group and any others with you, instead of waiting around the station as we are expected a large crowd and security will be tight as usual.
We will leave the station at 12pm and heading to Manto in the gay village. We have booked the upstairs venue between 12 and 5pm. The venue is cheap and active at all times, drinks are 2 for one for a few selected beers and cocktails. Shots are £1.50 with a beer. NB: We have been informed that our venue for this meet can NOT allow under 18s in, due to insurance issues. The upstairs area has enough seating for us and we have the downstairs area for the balcony and smoking. We will be doing something original at the meet that would be great for fursuiters and photographers. We will be having a mini fursuit disco that will play a variety of music (Please PM for requests for songs).
As usual we will also have the fursuit parade that will run in areas of Manchester but I would suggest that if it is a hot day, that the walk be kept close to the bar. If you leave your bags, make sure that you have someone looking after them. WE WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE IF YOUR BAG IS DAMAGED OR STOLEN.
I have also planned a few activities that are in the works that are different from what we usually put on. This includes ice skating, go karting and indoor sky diving but if you want to do these activities, you have to be committed to attend and pay for it, no backing out last second. (This is all on a selected forum page)
After 5pm the bar is re-opened to the public, so you will have to move from the area and either move downstairs or go to a different bar.
Because of the large crowds that show up to the main meet, there will be a RED CARD system in place for those who do not follow rules or are caught drinking underaged. You will be given a warning, then if caught causing more problems, you will be removed quietly from the bar and banned from the venue.
Please make sure you buy a drink, even just a coke, just to make the bar manager happy lol. Its not expensive and perfect for the hot weather. Meet Rules (Updated 2010-05-17):- Due to venue policies, under 18s are NOT allowed in the main venue AT ALL! Sorry, but we have only just been advised of this by venue management.
- Alcohol not purchased on the premises is not to be consumed on the premises. General food and soft drinks not purchased on the premises are not to be consumed on the premises, though exclusions are possible (bottled water for fursuiters, home baked cake products) with prior approval from the bar staff.
- Alcohol to be consumed in moderation! Don't get yourself in shit state as I hate babysitting. Just be sensible and know your limits.
- The possession, use or sale of illicit substances is expressly forbidden. Offenders can expect the police to be notified.
- Attendees of the meets are expected to behave in a manner conducive to that of a public place.
Please do not partake in anything that could be reasonably construed as an affront to public decency or in contravention to the Public Order Act. If you want more information as to what this entails exactly then please contact a member of the meet staff. Common sense here is paramount. Shortly put dont be a moron... have some common sence and know what not to do in the public eye. - Do not bring weapons or restraints onto the premises.
- Proof of ID must be carried if you look under 21.
I mean seriously who doesn't have ID on them? D: (acceptable ID is in the form of either a passport, Driving licence, National Identity Card, proof card or student ID in the rare case that it has a date of birth on it) - NO PISSING AROUND WITH LEASHES... Health hazard and regulations
- DO NOT CREATE A HEALTH HAZARD WITH LAPTOP CABLES - This is a must...
Try not to abuse it too much as well, remember you are using power without paying for it so don't be a dick with it. - ALL ADULT ART MUST BE KEPT DISCREET.
- Try to keep all public displays of affection in a reasonable way (aka no rolling around on one an other making out etc.) I don't mind it being done but don't go over the top kay... it disturbs others etc.
IMPORTANT - Use COMMON SENSE and KEEP IT SIMPLE, STOOPID.
- DO NOT wear leashes in the venue. You WILL be asked to leave! This is not a request, but an order from the venue management on Health and Safety grounds.
- DO NOT hang around at the railway station for longer than is absolutely necessary. The Police and Station staff will NOT appreciate it, and it's also an offence under the Railway Byelaws (specifically, Byelaw 13) and also the Railway Regulation Act 1840.
- Under 18? Sorry, but you're NOT allowed into the bar at all. Underage drinking at previous meets, coupled with the size of the group, mean that there is a very real risk of the group being barred...and Canal Street has a "one strike and you're out" policy. (i.e. If you get barred from one venue, you get barred from them all).
- Bring some form of photo ID, such as a National Identity Card, Passport, Driving Licence or Proof of Age card. The venue (and most of Canal Street) are now applying the "Challenge 25" rule, whereby they will ask for ID from anyone looking to be under 25.
- The bar serves food. Do NOT bring in food and drink from outside. It's just plain rude, and you risk getting us thrown out!
- No bondage on display
- No over the top behaviour that can cause harm to others, this includes chasing each other around the inside of the venue. You're in a bar, not a children's playground.
- No fighting
- No drugs
- NOTICE FOR FURSUITERS: Fursuiting WITHIN THE BAR is to be kept to a minimum. A fursuit walk will be arranged for the main meet hours (probably around 2pm). We do NOT have exclusive use of the venue, and pissing off the staff and other customers would be a VeryBadThing™ (For the person pissing them off, that is. - Ed)
Advice and Frequently Questioned Answers:- No-one on the meet committee is there to babysit you, if you want to do an event you don't need our permission (although it's nice if you tell someone).
- Don't take photos of people without asking, it's rude and very anti-social. Not everyone likes having their picture plastered around the net. If you're taking a photo that only involves one or two people (ie not group shots) just ask before pressing that shutter button.
- Think before you do any action. Yes the bar may be a gay bar but that doesn't mean you can do as you please. Fondling, groping and other sexual act's will NOT be tolerated. Not only will you be thrown out, we will report you to the management which can lead to a ban from Canal Street for those involved.
- Use common sense. Almost every fur who has attended the Manchester Meets since I have been running them seems to get that rule, hence why they go off without many problems so please, use common sense as some of us have to live round here or regularly attend mini-meets in the area.
- You've seen a problem or someone is doing something they shouldn't? Tell someone, don't stay stum, if we know what's going on we can help resolve it.
- Manchester Meets are generally large (we had approximately 150 different furs attend the last one) so please understand that we can't come up with something for everyone although we do try our best, although suggestions for events are welcomed and if you'd like to run an event at the meet post it in this thread or contact myself and we'll sort something out
 - Finally, remember the main reason you came out to the meet was to meet up with old acquaintances, meet new people and have some f.u.n. FUN!
